چکیده

Coordinated cell movements during development require extensive exchange of information between the cells involved. Recent results suggest a connection between two signalling pathways during dorsal closure in the Drosophila embryo.

Drosophila morphogenesis: Orchestrating cell rearrangements

Changes in shape of individual cells need to be coordinated to generate the movements of cell groups and sheets that are so important in morphogenesis. Recent results have shown that, during Drosophila gastrulation, multiple signalling pathways act to orchestrate the complex cell rearrangements.

Dynamic analyses of Drosophila gastrulation provide insights into collective cell migration.

The concerted movement of cells from different germ layers contributes to morphogenesis during early embryonic development. Using an optimized imaging approach and quantitative methods, we analyzed the trajectories of hundreds of ectodermal cells and internalized mesodermal cells within Drosophila embryos over 2 hours during gastrulation. We found a high level of cellular organization, with mes...

Mass transit: epithelial morphogenesis in the Drosophila egg chamber.

Epithelial cells use a striking array of morphogenetic behaviors to sculpt organs and body plans during development. Although it is clear that epithelial morphogenesis is largely driven by cytoskeletal rearrangements and changes in cell adhesion, little is known about how these processes are coordinated to construct complex biological structures from simple sheets of cells. The follicle cell ep...

Planar Cell Polarity Signaling in Collective Cell Movements During Morphogenesis and Disease

Collective and directed cell movements are crucial for diverse developmental processes in the animal kingdom, but they are also involved in wound repair and disease. During these processes groups of cells are oriented within the tissue plane, which is referred to as planar cell polarity (PCP). This requires a tight regulation that is in part conducted by the PCP pathway. Although this pathway w...

Rab11 is required for maintenance of cell shape via βPS integrin mediated cell adhesion in Drosophila

In eukaryotes, vesicle trafficking is regulated by the small monomeric GTPases of the Rab protein family. Rab11, (a subfamily of the Ypt/Rab gene family) an evolutionarily conserved, ubiquitously expressed subfamily of small monomeric Rab GTPases, has been implicated in regulating vesicular trafficking through the recycling of endosomal compartment. In an earlier communication, we have shown th...
